Todd started playing with a cheap disc that was given out for free for signing up for a credit card at the University of Regina in 1998. That opened the door to the sport of Ultimate in the RUFDC league in Regina. While on the way to a family reunion in 2001 in Kansas, his family stopped at a mall in Minnesota. There was a store that had disc golf discs for sale there and on a whim he purchased a couple discs. While in Kansas he played his first round in Hays, Kansas. Since then Todd has played at courses in Minnesota, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Dakota, BC, Alberta and, of course, Saskatchewan. He now plays regularly at his home course in Melville, usually alone, since no one else plays there. Todd has one ace on a basket course and several aces on tonals.

Calvin has been playing disc golf for five years, and at 56, readily admits his best years in any sport were years before he knew disc golf existed. But he loves the sport, actively working to promote the growth locally. As a player he says he is happy he has progressed from no forehand to one that is useful 50 per cent of the time. Having never expected a berth in the event, he has only one slim hope, not to finish last in the field, but added it should be fun to watch this field on course.

Talsma started playing disc golf in the Yukon with friends 5 years ago, quickly becaming hooked on the sport. After scoring his first round under par he really learned to love, not only the game itself but also how to use disc selection and strategy to improve play. After returning from the Yukon 3 summers ago he made my own course on and around cemetery hill in Fort Qu’Appelle using old tires hung up in the bush. Last year I spent in the Yukon and it was with the greatest excitement that I heard the PADG had made a course around the fort. I am proud of the work the PADG has done for the game and look forward to what the next 5 years could hold for the sport.

Writer, singer/songwriter and entrepreneur Christopher Istace of Moosomin, SK was introduced to disc golf about a decade ago, but he jumped into the sport with both feet in 2014, making trips to Yorkton, SK due to a lack of facilities in his area. In 2015, he helped design and is now the director of the Rocanville Disc Golf Club located south of Rocanville, SK.

Joshua Istace is a 12-year-old Grade 7 student in Moosomin, SK. In 2014, he began playing disc golf with his father, where he quickly excelled in the sport with daily in his backyard or at the playground. Today, Josh regularly competes in the Men’s Open Division in spite of his youth. When not disc golfing, Josh plays competitive football, does tricks on his scooter and plays drums in his home studio.

I started playing Disc Golf when I came back to Regina in June of 2015. I had played Ultimate for several years prior and with my friends we would throw frisbees in the park aiming at trees; and during one of those I was given my first disc, a Blizzard TeeDevil. It took me months before I could throw that disc properly but I haven't looked back since. Now I am a Director for the RDGA, running leagues and tournaments in the Queen City. I have participated in a total of four tournaments throughout the province (North Battleford, Watrous, Regina and Stockholm) and done well considering this is my first year playing competitively. I have become renown for my strong arm, not that that will help any in technical courses like Yorkton and looking forward to the competition this Champions tournament will present.

A second-year disc golfer, Duncan hails from Regina, where he plays both recreationally and competitively at Douglas Park. At the time of submission, he held the #2 bag tag within the RDGA Bag Tag League trailing only fellow tournament invitee Chris Hoyt. He has travelled extensively within Saskatchewan to play the game, having played courses in the Battlefords, Yorkton, and Saskatoon, in addition to nine other provincial courses, this year alone. Duncan earned his way into this event by placing first in the inaugural tournament at the Stockholm disc golf course in September. In his spare time, he is a substitute teacher.

Doug is a small business owner in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, operating the ServiceMaster Clean franchise since 2013. He is also responsible for penning the weekly music review in the Yorkton This Week newspaper, where he is graciously allowed to share his love for music to the unsuspecting public. Doug has recently taken up the sport of disc golf, and within a year has become addicted to the sport’s most haunting allure. Doug describes his association with fellow disc golfers and Chain Reaction co-hosts, Calvin Daniels and Trevor Lyons as, “hanging out with a bad crowd while trying to promote the sport of disc golf”. The amount of new disc golf courses being proposed and completed this year in the parkland area is staggering and Doug is expected to play a major role in their development and promotion along side the other members of the disc golf community.
