May long weekend 2017

The golf discs were flying over the May long weekend.

The 2017 Parkland Association of Disc Golf tournament series began Saturday, May 20, with their third annual event at the Fort Qu-Appelle course.

The event’s defending champion Jack Talsma of Fort Qu’Appelle would repeat with a big 18 in the afternoon, and then holding on through a final nine that was the top four golfers through 36 go at it.

For his win Talsma took home the 'Big Dog Award' sponsored by Yorkton Joe Beeverz Bar and Grill, and earned an invite to the Farrell Agencies PADG Champions’ Challenge to be held in October at the course at the Assessippi Beach & Campground in Manitoba. Talsma is the defending champion.

Duncan Holness of Regina finished second and will join Talsma at the year-end event, while Chris Istace of Moosomin and Josh Gregory of Meville filled out the final four.

Talsma also took home the 'Best Drive Award' sponsored by Yorkton Dodge.

The chance at the 'Tire Toss' sponsored by Fountain Tire Yorkton was also won by Talsma, but his three shots at the tire came up short.

'Closest to the Pin' sponsored by Asessippi Beach and Campground went to Kadie Hozempa of Regina.

Sunday the inaugural tournament at the course at Katepwa Provincial Park was held, with the help of the Katepwa Lions Club, the funding source for the nine-basket lay-out.

The event again saw 18 plated in the morning, followed by another 18 after luch, with the players with the top four scores then heading off for a final nine along the shore of Katepwa Lake.

Jason Kienle of Kuroki would emerge to take Joe Beeverz Bar and Grill 'Big Dog Award' and secure his invitation to the Champions Challenge.

Holness was on-hand to again take home second place honours, with Taylor Mountain of Regina and Josh Istace of Moosomin rounding out the final field of four.

'Closest to the Pin' sponsored by Asessippi Beach and Campground also went to Josh Istace of Moosomin.
