Yorkton adds major sponsor for 2017

When disc golfers converge on Yorkton next August they will again hit the Patrick Park Course for the newly named Grain Millers Trilogy Challenge.

“It has been a great success in its first two years, but we want to grow the event, and having Grain Millers coming on board as naming sponsors is a huge step in helping us do that,” said Dorian Bush, a Yorkton sub-committee member of the Parkland Association of Disc Golf (PADG). “The relationship with Grain Millers gives the event greater profile, and will allow us some added prizes for players, so hopefully we can attract 50, or more players next summer.”

Terry Tyson, Grain Procurement Manager, with Grain Millers said they are pleased to be on board with the regional disc golf group.

“It’s pretty clear that the Association has done a lot of work to grow the sport across the region,” he said. “Locally disc golfers have managed a successful event in Yorkton pretty much on their own. When approached to help them grow the local tournament, it was easy to jump on board.”

Trevor Lyons, Tournament Chair said it may only be November, a long way from the 2017 tournament season, but work is under way.

“We already have a half dozen tournaments with their dates set,” he said. “It will be a great season leading up to the Farrell Agencies Champions’ Champion Tournament next October.”

Part of that planning is looking for partnerships to grow events, said Lyons.

“We are always eager to create partnerships to grow the sport and Association activities, including having naming sponsors such as Grain Millers for the Yorkton Tournament,” he said. “We hope we have similar support at other tourneys across the PADG.”
