Peavey Mart sponsors 'Big Bird' prize

The Parkland Association of Disc Golf is expanding its tournament promotions for 2017.

And thanks to Peavey Mart that will include a ‘Big Bird Award’ for PADG members attending events within the Association Tournament Series.

PADG members will have their birdies tracked at 'PADG Series' tournaments throughout 2017. The player recording the most takes home a 'BBQ Turkey Fryer', thanks to the sponsorship of Peavey Mart.

“When we were approached it seemed like such a fun idea, and since disc golf is clearly growing in the region, we were happy to come on as the program sponsor,” said Dean Rugland, manager of Peavey Mart Yorkton.

Calvin Daniels, Chair of the PADG, said the new program was one they kicked around a bit.

“Part of the reason for the PADG has been the creation of a disc golf tournament series, the top finishers progressing to a year-end finals event,” he explained. “In 2016, eight courses held events. The PADG is looking to build on that foundation in 2017, and are already beginning work to that end.”

To build the base, the PADG wanted some unique features, especially for members, said Daniels.

“Getting a birdie, especially in tournament play, is a thrill, so we thought we could build on that thrill,” said Daniels.

“We came up with the program idea, then began kicking around a good prize idea and came up with the fryer for the biggest of birds.

“After that Peavey Mart jumped on board, and we have another fine sponsor partner.”

Currently the PADG encompasses 17 courses, all within 125-kms of Yorkton. There were only three in the same region May 1, 2015, so growth has been significant.
