Crusader Drilling becomes 'timely' partner

Throwing an ‘ace’ under the pressure of tournament play would be timely for any player.

So what better way is there

to mark the accomplishment than to be awarded a time piece for the effort?

That is exactly what will happen if a member of the Parkland Association of Disc Golf hits an Ace during one of the tournaments in the Association’s tournament series in 2017.

The wrist watch, or pocket watch, it would be the winner’s choice, is being sponsored by new PADG partner Crusader Drilling Corp.

“We are building the tournament series in multiple ways, including some programs specific to our membership,” said PADG Chair Calvin Daniels. “The idea of rewarding a member tossing an ‘Ace’ in a tourney was one we came up with, and immediately knew it was a program which needed a special award, and a timepiece seemed a perfect one.”

That’s where Crusader Drilling came in.

“When the PADG approached us, we invited Calvin over to discuss the idea, and when we realized how quickly disc golf has grown in the area thanks to their Association’s effort it made becoming a partner on the new program an easy decision,” said Crusader Drilling, president and CEO Don Rae.

The award will offer a player the option of timepieces, and of course it can be a ladies’ or men’s watch.

“It will be a great added feature for our members, and an extra feature for our tournaments,” said Trevor Lyons, PADG tournaments chair. “Adding new awards just makes being an Association member and tournament participant more appealing, and that is what we want, to build the sport and the PADG.”

Currently the PADG encompasses 17 courses, all within 125-kms of Yorkton. There were only three in the same region May 1, 2015, so growth has been significant.

In 2016 there were eight tournaments in the series, but that number is expected to nearly double in 2017, with eight events already having dates sets.
