Cornerstone Credit Union Cup set for Springside

Disc golfers should be marking Aug. 26, on their calendars as a local tournament takes on a higher profile.

The Cornerstone Credit Union Cup will be held for the first time in Springside.

“We had an event at the 18-tonal course last summer, but we are expecting the event to grow with Cornerstone Credit Union coming on-board as naming sponsor,” said Trevor Lyons, Tournament Chair with the Parkland Association of Disc Golf.

Lyons said the sponsorship will be used to enhance the event including growing the prize pool.

“It’s great to see our local credit union becoming involved,” agreed course representative Debbie Banks. “Last year’s tournament was a way to get our feet wet in terms of being part of the PADG tournament series, and this year we are excited by the potential to grow with a major sponsor involved.”

Sheri Lee Woolridge, Marketing Coordinator with Cornerstone Credit Union said they were happy to become involved.

“Anytime a new recreational opportunity is developed in a small town it’s a great thing for the community,” she said. “Becoming the major sponsor for the tournament is just our way of helping the sport grow farther in Springside.”

Lyons noted last year there were participants from as far away as Regina, Watrous and The Pas, MB., so the event has a great foundation to build on.

“This year we are twinning the Cornerstone Credit Union Cup, being held on a Saturday, with the Grain Millers Trilogy Challenge being held Sunday, Aug. 27, so travelling players can make it a weekend and participate in two great events,” he said.

As added incentive the top finishers among PADG members participating at tournaments, including those in Springside and Yorkton will be invited to partake in the Farrell Agencies Champions’ Challenge to be held Oct. 15.
